El Jadida-Mazagan, the multicultural city
Once known as Mazagan, this city built by the Portuguese has stood proudly facing the ocean since the 16th century. The excellent preservation of its architectural treasures and the fabulous blend of influences between Moroccan and European cultures have earned it UNESCO World Heritage status.
When visiting the mysterious cistern and its majestic vaults, lovers of the 7th art will recognise some of the sets used by Orson Wells in ‘Othello’. Even today, many film and television productions come to take advantage of El Jadida’s assets every year.
Between a lush eucalyptus forest and the splendid beach of El Haouzia, the Kerzner International group, which built the Atlantis complex in Dubai, also seized the opportunity to create the sumptuous seaside resort of Mazagan.
Situated between the past and the present, El Jadida-Mazagan offers visitors a wide range of activities. While enjoying its beaches, state-of-the-art golf courses and the resort’s festive atmosphere, discover ancestral traditions at the Moulay-Abdallah Amghar moussem, where you can watch a falcon-dressing demonstration, as well as epic activities such as the fantasia.
